INTENTIONS:

Chronos is a board game made during my first year in Rubika SupinfoGame. It was made in team of 6, 3 game designers & 3 game artists.

In Chronos, players are titans from antic Greece and they have to pass a deadly challenge created by the gods in order to retrieve their freedom.

my roles:

Game Designer

Level Designer

QA Manager

As a freshly new Game Designer the main challenge, for me, was about learning how to basically make a game! The board game aspect was very interesting in order to discover about game design by getting rid of programming issues.

We wanted to make a game that offers to the players several ways of playing by creating multiples playable characters, each one of them having their own gameplay experience (supporting allies, playing around card, fighting monsters, etc.). However, cooperation is key in the game and we had to make sure that every character have strong synergy with the others.

That was our main task and we work a lot on it.

Also our titans need to cross the board twice and since they are giants, they keep destroying the ground underneath them. That's why the game is asking anticipation skill to the player. They need to pay attention to what they are doing on the first run because they will soon need to pass over the very holes they created.

So surprisingly we needed to work a lot on Level Design. We wanted every game to be unique while being perfectly balanced

Therefore we worked on procedurally generated board and we did a lot of game simulations by creating our own terrain generator computer program

Lastly I was in charge of the Quality Assurance part. Thus I organized a lot of playtest sessions and since we wanted the game to be accessible for families but also interesting for hardcore gamers, our playtesters would all have a unique profile. From ordinary family to board game creators, our playtesters gave us a lot of precious feedback. They helped us finding unique traits to our playable characters, balancing the game, etc.
